Redeemer Church is a missional community. A “missional church” is one that has real community, a close-knit family of faith; at the same time, missional is to remain open, permeable, trying to live out the historic Christian faith in town, campus, and region.
As we do this together…
Our hope is that through Redeemer our region would look more and more like the city of God (Revelation 21.1-4, 22.1-5).
May 2021 Church planter began interviewing with the MNA Committee of TVP (Mission to North America of Tennessee Valley Presbytery)
May 2021 Visited Athens for a vision trip on Memorial Day
Dec 2021 Church planter family moves to Athens!
March 2022 Began 2 Bible Studies. FCA at McMinn High and a living room study.
Nov 2022 Launched worship at the Athens Comfort Inn, later Cleveland State.
August 2024 Purchased our facility and began worship on September 1st!
A healthy Christ-centered church has great potential knowing that Athens sits strategically between two major cities about 50 miles from us to the north and the south. McMinn also as several neighboring counties that are very rural with limited church options.
McMinn County is growing and currently has about 55,000 people with only 1/2 being active in a church. We believe impacting McMinn County will impact the entire state and region of our country. Jesus invested in 12 men for 3 years who impacted the world with the Gospel exponentially, to spread His eternal Kingdom. Our mission is to carry on that impact here and across the globe. There are a number of new churches here and more to come!
Celebrating the Gospel in Worship, Community & Mission
There are three core truths which give shape to our vision and fuel our hope
• Christ’s Kingdom: the King’s Mission. We believe Christ’s kingdom is his powerful rule in word/deed which brings God’s shalom to all of life.
• Christ’s Church: the King’s Community. We believe the Christ’s church is the
primary instrument through which he carries out His kingdom mission in the world.
• Christ’s Gospel: the King’s Grace. We believe that when Christ ministers his kingdom rule through His church, the lives of individual people are transformed by His grace.
Our church is built on this Truth of the Kingdom: it’s the backdrop to everything we are and dream of being. We believe this King is real, alive, ruling and coming again. We believe his kingdom is operative in the world. We believe that this King and his kingdom is the only thing
worth living for and the only thing worth dying for. We want to follow this King and be a part of his kingdom coming!
Christ is reproducing his life-pattern and mission in the church: the pattern of his incarnation, life, death, and resurrection that brings life to the world. The church is called to incarnate into a culture, to live and die for its people, and rejoice in the resurrection life that breaks forth. Christ is our model of church: “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds” (John 12.24).
We want to saturate our common life with the Gospel in several ways.
- We seek to minister the gospel in all of our avenues of ministry: in
worship/sermons, in small groups, in individual relationships. - We seek to help every individual in our church grasp this gospel more fully: All people – both Christians and non-Christians – need this gospel. Non-Christians need to believe it and be converted; Christian must grow in their faith in Christ for all he’s promised in the gospel. Col. 2.6-7.
